Rachelle here. We are quickly approaching our big 10-year anniversary celebration here at Tumaini. There are many details involved in making the big day a success, but we have a lot of help to do it. The staff have divided themselves up into various committees – food, entertainment, decorations, etc. – and have helped immensely in researching costs, narrowing options, and selecting vendors. They have done a great job of getting things done within the limits of our budget as well.
The children have also been busy preparing things for the sherehe (party). Many of the girls have been working on a variety of sewing and handiwork projects, and many of the boys have been busily designing various cars and creations. We plan to display a number of these items on the day of the party. The kids have also been hard at work preparing several entertainment numbers for the program. There will be singing and dancing and public speaking specials.
Yesterday, Beth and I got to see for the first time several of these special program items. Beth had the good thought of doing a run-through of the program with the kids to prepare them as much as possible for the day. It was fun to hear and see what they have been working on. While they are doing a pretty good job on the special numbers, the challenge was in preparing and arranging them before they came on “stage.” The transition time took up a lot of time! We started the practice around 11:30 a.m. or so and decided to call it quits for the day around 2:00 p.m. We didn’t even get a change to run through the entire program! Thankfully, we still have time for a few more practices before the big day.
We are all very excited about this upcoming celebration. God has been so good to us here at Tumaini and has provided for us in countless ways. We can’t wait to share with others what He has done for us. Would you pray with us that our party on August 6th will bring glory to God and proclaim His goodness and faithfulness to us over the years? To God be the glory!
