Beth here. We successfully completed another week of vacation from school. And though we enjoy having the children home from school, it is rather nice when they get to go back again! J
A few of our activities were:
Building a road! We are opening up the old Tumaini main gate to use as our main driveway again which meant that grass needed to be cleared away, trees dug up and ditches created. The area around the church and Institute building is being fenced in as an added protective measure for the Tumaini children. Doing so will close off the church entrance and driveway that we've been using for the past five years.
Several years back, we gave the older children an opportunity to do some day laborer work in order to "buy" a Bible if they wanted one. It's been a while since we renewed this offer and the children who were too young then have grown up since the last offer. With a driveway needing to be created, and the timing of it coinciding with a school break, we saw loads of opportunity before our eyes. Twenty-five of the younger children expressed an interest in working for a Bible, so Abeli and Ferdinand plotted off sections of work for them to do and they did it with vigor! I was so pleased with how hard they worked and that they also enjoyed themselves in the process.
On Saturday, a few of the boys assisted Ferdinand in trying to excavate a large rock that pokes up through one of our main paths. The contractor who is working on the road and fence project will be bringing some people to remove large rocks from the driveway so we thought we'd try to get rid of this particular rock. Ferdinand thought that it might be possible to dig it up, but once he and the boys dug down deep enough, they realized the rock was like an iceberg.
And last but not least, our daily study assignment/punishment for our seven boys who have been playing around at school. By Saturday, things seemed to have improved quite a bit, for which I was thankful. I think God was answering the prayers many of you were praying for us! We'll see if it sticks by how much of a change there will be in their test scores....
