Yesterday, I was invited to preach in Sweya. Jana and the kids came along with me, because we hadn't yet had a chance to visit as a family since Moriah was born. I preached a sermon from Phil 2:14-16, emphasizing that we must cling to the Word in order to continue to shine as lights in the world.
Just after the sermon, there was a downpour that produced quite a bit of pea-sized and dime-sized hail. The children were running out in the rain trying to collect handfuls of the hail, which melted nearly as fast as it fell. I was able to snap a quick picture with my phone of Pastor Paulo's son's treasure. When most kids here rarely see ice, it is a treat to get to hold it in their hand or pop it in their mouths and let it melt.
After we ate lunch with Paulo's family, there was a youth meeting that I was also invited to speak to. I shared with them some thoughts about the Lord's Prayer that were well-received.
After that, around 5:00 PM, we made our return trip back home. Along the way, we found a small "river" flowing across the dirt road on the way back to our village. As we crept slowly into the water flow, we discovered that it was a two-foot deep trench had been cut through the dirt road as the rain water passed from one side of the road to the other. Of course, we didn't discover this until the car suddenly dropped forward and stopped as the front tires settled into the trench! It was the second time this week that I was thankful for having an off-road vehicle; this time for having enough clearance power to get through our little rainy season "river".
